The National Gallery of Art is governed by a nine-member board of trustees, equanimous of five general trustees, who are appointed to staggered ten-year terms, and iv ex officio trustees.

Mitchell P. Rales, President
Mitchell P. Rales is co-founder and chairman of the executive commission of Danaher Corporation and has been an active supporter of the National Gallery of Art for more two decades. At present the president of the National Gallery, he has served the institution in a number of capacities, including as a member of the Collectors Commission (1999–present), the Trustee's Council (2001–2006), and the National Gallery of Art Board of Trustees (2006–present). In addition to his work with the National Gallery of Art, Rales is cofounder of Glenstone, a foundation and museum that seamlessly integrates art, compages, and nature on a nearly 300-acre property in Potomac, Md. The museum opened in 2006 and houses an extensive drove of postwar and contemporary art. Admission to Glenstone is e'er free.

David M. Rubenstein, Chairman
David K. Rubenstein is a Washington, DC philanthropist and Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of The Carlyle Group, a global alternative asset manager, which he cofounded in 1987. He has been involved with the National Gallery of Art since 1999 when he was a patron fellow member of the National Gallery of Fine art Circle through 2003. In 2005 Rubenstein fabricated a substantial gift toward scholarly publications and curatorial fellowships. Rubenstein has been on the National Gallery of Art Board of Trustees since 2015 and served as a member of the Trustees' Quango from 2005 to 2010. In 2012 Rubenstein generously donated $x million towards the expansion of the National Gallery'southward East Edifice.

Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen
Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen is a founder, educator, and best-selling author who empowers women to pursue leadership roles and encourages people to brand an impact—in their communities, workplaces, and society—by sharing their time, expertise, networks, or resources. She is the founder and chairman of the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Ceremonious Society and of the Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen Foundation (LAAF.org), cofounder and president of the Marc and Laura Andreessen Foundation, copresident of the Arrillaga Foundation, and founder and chairman emeritus of the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund. For 20 years, Arrillaga-Andreessen has adult and taught original courses on strategic philanthropy, women in leadership, and inclusive leadership at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Arrillaga-Andreessen'sNew York Times all-time seller,Giving 2.0: Transform Your Giving and Our World, encourages people of all backgrounds to give with greater intent and impact. She is a contributing author to Frontiers in Social Innovation (Harvard Business Review Press, 2022). Through LAAF.org, Arrillaga-Andreessen provides gratis educational resources and a framework that helps anyone who wants to make a difference in the globe use their vocalism, pb, and give in ways meaningful to them and to those they strive to achieve and empower. She holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate Schoolhouse of Business, as well equally an MA in education, and a BA and MA in fine art history, all from Stanford University.

Indra Nooyi
Indra Nooyi was chairman and CEO of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2019. Darren Walker
Darren Walker is president of the Ford Foundation, a $13-billion international social justice philanthropy. He is cofounder and chair of the U.S. Impact Investing Alliance and cochair of the President's Council on Disability Inclusion in Philanthropy. Before joining Ford, Darren was vice president at the Rockefeller Foundation, overseeing global and domestic programs. In the 1990s he was COO of the Abyssinian Evolution Corporation, Harlem's largest community development organisation. He joined the National Gallery's Lath of Trustees in 2019.

Executive Officers

The lath of trustees appoints the National Gallery of Fine art director and executive officers, who manage the day-to-twenty-four hours operations of the museum.

Manager: Kaywin Feldman
Kaywin Feldman is the National Gallery's fifth director. She is committed to connecting people to art in a globalized earth through the power of wonder and accessibility. Prior to her inflow, Feldman served for 11 years equally the Nivin and Duncan MacMillan Director and President at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia). She is a trustee of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the White House Historical Clan, and the Chipstone Foundation. Secretary and General Counsel: Nancy Robinson Breuer
As Secretarial assistant and General Counsel, Nancy Robinson Breuer directs the role providing legal advice and assistance to National Gallery staff and the Board of Trustees including communication regarding contractual agreements, obligations, gifts, litigation, official records, and trustee meetings. She also serves equally secretary to the Lath of Trustees and is responsible for the National Gallery Archives.  Prior to joining the National Gallery, Breuer was an associate at the New York law house of Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler in the trusts and estates and not-for-turn a profit departments. She holds a JD from the New York University School of Constabulary and a BA from Harvard Higher.

Collections, Exhibitions and Programs Officer: Kate Haw
Kate Haw supervises exhibitions, exhibition design, registration, and fine art training and installation, as well equally the National Gallery'southward library and educational, music, and movie programs. Prior to joining the National Gallery, Haw was managing director of the Archives of American Fine art, where she implemented strategic planning; realigned departmental priorities, including initiatives to build resource on historically underrepresented groups; modernized productivity; and increased worldwide accessibility of the collection. Treasurer: William W. McClure
Bill McClure is the Treasurer of the National Gallery and oversees all fiscal operations, direction of the invested endowment portfolio, and retail operations. McClure also directs the strategy and direction of the National Gallery'southward data technology and digital programs. Before joining the National Gallery, McClure worked for more a decade in fiscal manage­ment at the Metropolitan Museum of Fine art and investment management at the Episcopal Church Pension Fund in New York City. He holds a BA in architecture from Princeton and an MBA in finance and manage­ment of organizations from Columbia Business School.

Administrator: Sheila McDaniel
Sheila McDaniel oversees the divisions of authoritative support, architecture and capital improvement, facilities, horticulture, personnel, procurement, and security, which comprise more than one-third of the museum'due south staff. In addition, McDaniel manages the annual budget for operations and building renovations, including the circuitous, multiyear Master Facilities Plan. She previously served as the deputy director of finance and operations at the Studio Museum in Harlem and was a member of the leadership team responsible for implementing the museum'southward strategic program and managing the construction of a new facility. McDaniel holds an MA in public assistants from Baruch Higher and is pursuing a dr. of education in adult learning and leadership at Columbia University.

Deputy Director: Eric Fifty. Motley
Eric L. Motley is the deputy director of the National Gallery of Art. In this role, Motley is responsible for developing and deploying a national strategy for the museum through civic, cultural, and philanthropic partnerships, in addition to advancing the National Gallery's mission in tandem with its operating and revenue-generating plans. He oversees congressional relations as well every bit the museum's departments of development and membership, communications, special events, visitor feel and evaluation, and content strategy, publishing, and branding. Prior to joining the National Gallery, Motley worked for the Aspen Establish, a global, non-partisan public policy organization based in Washington, DC. Steven Nelson is the dean of the Heart for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA), responsible for its fellowships, meetings, research, and publications. Nelson has published widely on the arts, architecture, and urbanism of Africa and its diasporas and on queer studies. Nelson is professor emeritus at the Academy of California, Los Angeles, where he served as managing director of the African Studies Center and advised the academy on its diversity and inclusion strategic planning. Before assuming the role of dean, he was the Center's Andrew W. Mellon Professor. Nelson earned a BA in studio art from Yale University and an AM and a PhD in art history from Harvard University.

Chief Curatorial and Conservation Officer: E. Carmen Ramos
E. Carmen Ramos is the chief curatorial and conservation officer responsible for expanding the National Gallery's collection and developing scholarship and exhibitions that connect with current and future audiences. Ramos previously served as the acting chief curator and curator of Latinx art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM), where she built one of the largest collections of Latinx fine art at a museum of American art and organized such scholarly exhibitions and publications asOur America: The Latino Presence in American Fine art (2013) and¡Press the Revolution! The Ascent and Affect of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to At present(2020). Prior to SAAM, she was an assistant curator at the Newark Museum of Art in New Bailiwick of jersey. Ramos holds a PhD and MA in fine art history from the University of Chicago and a BA in art history and psychology from New York University.
